Access to Electronic Resources

Who can access electronic resources?

To comply with provider licensing agreements, access to e-resources is limited to current students and employees at the University of Mississippi.

Members of the community who do not fall into one of the above categories may access many of our resources from the public terminals within the library.


How do I access electronic resources?
You can use the links found in the catalog or elsewhere on the library’s website (for example, the Articles and Databases page or the eResource Portal page). You may need to log in with your WebID and password to get access to specific resources.

Has something changed? I used to be able to access electronic resources from anywhere on-campus without having to sign in with my WebID and password.

As of August 1st, 2011, we have a new authentication process. Unless you are using one of the public terminals available within the library, you will now be asked to log in to access library resources.

I’m in the library so why am I being asked to log in with my WebID and password to access a resource?
If you are using a wireless connection within the library to access our resources, you will likely need to sign in twice. The first time will be to log in to the wireless network. The second time will be when you attempt to access a resource. As long as you keep the browser open and remain logged in to the wireless network, you will not need to log in again.


Why am I unable to access some resources from outside of the library?
License agreements prohibit us from allowing access to certain resources from outside of the library.


What do I do if I am having trouble accessing resources?
If you have never used your library account, check to see if your name and barcode number are registered with our library system. Test your account by logging in to My Library. When you enter your name and barcode number, the system should let you access your account. If you get an error message, call the Circulation Desk at (662) 915-5858.

If you are able to access your account but are still having trouble accessing an e-resource, there may be several reasons: the database server might be down temporarily or the database vendor might have network problems. Try several databases to see if other databases are working. Please report the details of the issue to the Reference Desk at (662) 915-5855 or via Ask a Librarian.
